News Summary

Todd Wilson has been promoted to Southeast Regional Publisher for Community Newspapers, Inc., overseeing multiple local publications. Based in Lake City, Wilson will also serve as the interim publisher for the News-Leader in Fernandina Beach, continuing the legacy of excellence in community journalism left by his predecessor, Foy Maloy.

Exciting Leadership News in Lake City!

Lake City, a vibrant community known for its close-knit atmosphere and rich history, is buzzing with excitement after the announcement of a significant promotion within the community journalism sector. Todd Wilson, a familiar face in local media, has been elevated to the position of Southeast Regional Publisher for Community Newspapers, Inc. (CNI). This is an excellent opportunity for Wilson as he takes on a critical role in overseeing several local publications, including the Lake City Reporter, News-Leader of Fernandina Beach, Nassau County Record of Callahan, and the Tribune & Georgian of St. Marys, Georgia.

A New Headquarters and Expanded Responsibilities

As part of this reshuffling, the regional headquarters will be based right here in Lake City, allowing Wilson to remain at the heart of the community he loves and has served for nearly two decades. While his appointment as Regional Publisher cranks up the gears for exciting changes, Wilson is also stepping in as the interim publisher of the News-Leader in Fernandina Beach. The search for a permanent publisher will continue, but in the meantime, this seasoned journalist is ready to hit the ground running.

A Legacy of Service and Accomplishments

Wilson’s predecessor, Foy Maloy, is preparing for retirement after an impressive 30 years of service in the industry. Maloy’s tenure has set the bar high, and the community is fortunate to have someone as experienced and respected as Wilson to take the reins. CNI President praised Wilson’s deep-rooted experience in community journalism and the strong relationship he has built with the Lake City community over the years.

The new Southeast Regional Publisher isn’t just familiar with the inner workings of these publications; he’s also been a pivotal player for 16 years as Regional Publisher and editor of the Lake City Reporter for four years. Under Wilson’s leadership, the Lake City Reporter has accumulated a treasure trove of accolades, including four President’s Awards, and has established itself as a champion for local causes, winning awards like the Florida Springs Champion Award and the Florida Special Olympics Media Organization of the Year.

A Commitment to Community and Journalism

Wilson’s passion for journalism sparked at age 15 when he began his career as a sports stringer for his local paper. Fast forward to today, and he carries a whopping 128 awards for his exceptional writing, content creation, and innovative page design from multiple press associations, showcasing his dedication to quality journalism.

Adding to his impressive credentials, at just 20 years old, Wilson made history as the youngest Associated Press state champion in both deadline news and sports reporting in Missouri, signifying his early talent and enthusiasm for storytelling.

Community Engagement

Believing that “strong newspapers build strong communities,” Wilson is deeply committed to community service. His dedication extends beyond journalism and into various leadership positions, including serving as the past president of the Lake City-Columbia County Chamber of Commerce. His expertise and advocacy for the press industry also sees him on the executive board as secretary/treasurer of the Florida Press Association.

Looking Ahead

With Todd Wilson stepping into this vital role of Southeast Regional Publisher, the community eagerly anticipates continued growth and commitment to local journalism. The expectation is high for innovative initiatives and deeper connections within the communities served. Lake City, along with its neighboring areas, can look forward to a bright future under Wilson’s stewardship, where informed, local storytelling remains at the forefront.

The community is sure to rally around Wilson as he embarks on this new journey, enhancing the regions’ publications while continuing a legacy of dedicated journalism that supports and uplifts the community. Here’s to a prosperous and exciting future for journalism in our corner of the world!
