Tallahassee Prepares for Annual “A Very Lofty Christmas” Celebration with Music and Festivities

Tallahassee Gears Up for “A Very Lofty Christmas” Celebration

TALLAHASSEE – Locals eagerly anticipate the upcoming community event, A Very Lofty Christmas, scheduled for Saturday, December 14, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Lofty Pursuits, a beloved candy and ice cream shop located at 1355 Market Street. This year’s celebration marks two significant anniversaries: the 14th annual musical celebration and the 15th anniversary of the Lofty Pursuits Marching Band.

Who Is Involved?

The event will showcase over 70 musical performers playing cheerful holiday music throughout the afternoon. Among the highlights will be the Lofty Pursuits Marching Band, which has grown from fewer than ten musicians to as many as 40 members over the past fifteen years. Additionally, attendees will enjoy performances from A Tuba Christmas, an ensemble composed of around 40 low brass musicians, and the Capitol Bells, a handbell choir known for their beautiful renditions of seasonal tunes.

What to Expect?

Visitors can look forward to a host of festive activities. At 1 p.m., the A Tuba Christmas performance will kick off the festivities, followed by the Capitol Bells at 2:30 p.m., and culminating with the Lofty Pursuits Marching Band at 4 p.m. A special guest, Santa Claus, will also be present, ready to spread holiday cheer. Owner Gregory Cohen confirmed that Santa enjoys a brief Florida vacation before his busy season, making him a special attraction at this event. Families can take photos with Santa, creating lasting memories of their visit.

Why Is This Event Significant?

The history of Lofty Pursuits is intertwined with the local community and its holiday traditions. “Fifteen years ago, the Lofty Pursuits marching band was formed to play at this annual Market District community event,” Cohen remarked in a press release. He highlighted how the candy shop pioneered its candy cane making during its inaugural year, which has since become a renowned aspect of Lofty Pursuits, attracting visitors from around the world. The shop has received notable recognition, including features in Wired Magazine and Southern Living.

Where to Find the Event?

The celebration will take place at Lofty Pursuits, conveniently located at 1355 Market Street, Tallahassee. Attendees can expect a festive atmosphere filled with music, candy-making demonstrations, and the joy of the holiday season.

How to Participate?

This community event is free for all families to attend, making it an accessible way to celebrate the season together. Local candy makers will be demonstrating their skills and inviting attendees to watch as they create the shop’s famed candy canes right before their eyes.

Final Thoughts

As the day approaches, community excitement grows for this cherished holiday event. Lofty Pursuits not only marks a seasonal celebration but also serves as a reminder of Tallahassee’s unique traditions. Everyone is encouraged to come join the festivities and create special moments with friends and family.
