Tallahassee Schools on Lockout: A Brief Overview

This past Tuesday, the peaceful ambiance at Lincoln High School and nearby schools took a sudden turn when they were placed under a lockout around 10:40 a.m. But don’t worry! This was simply a precaution while law enforcement dealt with an ongoing situation in the neighborhood.

What Happened

At roughly 10:00 a.m., the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) received a call regarding a domestic disturbance at a residence on Pichard Drive. Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block, where they promptly discovered reported issues involving a suspect named Laddaris Small.

As the situation unfolded, law enforcement tried to detain Small at the front of the house. However, he made a quick getaway into the residence and barricaded himself inside. With safety as the top priority, the TPD called in their Tactical Apprehension and Control Team to help with the arrest.

Lockout Explained

The term lockout might sound alarming, but it’s quite different from a lockdown. During a lockout, students at Lincoln High School, Apalachee Elementary, and the Leon County Virtual School continued with their regular class schedules, albeit under heightened security measures. Guests were not permitted to enter the campuses while law enforcement worked on resolving the situation nearby.

By 11:40 a.m., the lockout was cleared, and classes resumed as normal. Just before the lockout was officially lifted, Lincoln High School administrators reached out to parents and faculty via email around 11:25 a.m. to inform them of the situation.

Resolution of the Disturbance

By approximately 11:41 a.m., Small emerged from the residence and was taken into custody without any further issues. His arrest came with several charges, including violation of probation, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and resisting without violence. It was later uncovered that Small had active warrants from Georgia related to past offenses.

Gratitude and Community Support

Administrators at Lincoln High School expressed their gratitude to local law enforcement for their prompt response and assured parents that the students were safe throughout the incident. A heartfelt thanks was also extended to teachers and students for their patience during this unexpected event.

Conclusion

In summary, while it’s always unsettling when law enforcement operations happen near schools, the swift actions by the TPD ensured that everyone remained safe. The lockout was a precautionary measure with classes continuing normally as officials handled the situation efficiently. The quick resolution and cooperation between law enforcement and school administrators highlight the importance of communication in keeping our community safe.

So, dear residents of Tallahassee, rest assured that safety is always a top priority, and the cooperation between local schools and law enforcement is a source of strength for our community!
