News Summary

As the holiday season approaches, the City of Tallahassee announces important schedule adjustments for city services. Administrative offices will close for Christmas, and solid waste collection will be delayed. Residents are reminded of public transit changes, including no services on Christmas day. Additionally, early closures for the Animal Services and Library services will take place on Christmas Eve. The City aims to inform and assist residents in navigating these seasonal changes to ensure a smooth holiday experience.

Tallahassee Readies for the Holiday Season with Important Schedule Changes

As we approach the holiday season, the City of Tallahassee wants to ensure that residents are well-informed about various changes and closures that will affect city services during Christmas and New Year’s week. This is a time we come together to celebrate, and knowing the schedule can make it a lot smoother for everyone!

City Offices Closed for Christmas

Residents should note that all City of Tallahassee administrative offices will be closed on Wednesday, December 25, to allow employees to celebrate the Christmas holiday. So, if you need to take care of any business at city offices, be sure to do it before then!

Solid Waste Schedule Changes

For those living within the Tallahassee city limits, there are some important adjustments to the solid waste collection schedule for the week of December 22-28, especially since it’s a red collection week. All residential garbage, recycling, bulky items, and yard waste services will be collected one day later than normal. This means you might need to shift your routine a bit!

To ensure that no one misses their collection day, customers are encouraged to set their collection bins out behind the curb the night before their scheduled pickup. Plus, don’t forget to return your garbage and recycling containers to your home no later than the day after collection.

If you’re planning to dispose of bulky items or yard waste, remember that these should be placed behind the curb no earlier than the weekend before the collection day. For specific collection dates, you can easily check out Talgov.com.

Recycling—A Quick Reminder

Residents are being reminded to promptly recycle cardboard boxes, which can pose a safety hazard and contribute to crime in neighborhoods when left out for long periods. To assist with this, the City will set up recycling sites for cardboard and live-cut Christmas trees starting December 23 and continuing until January 9. The drop-off locations will be at Tom Brown Park, San Luis Mission Park, and Myers Park.

When dropping off those Christmas trees, be sure to remove any decorations, as the trees will be turned into mulch for use in local parks. It’s a great way to celebrate the season and contribute back to the community!

Public Transit Adjustments

Now, let’s talk about public transportation! If you rely on StarMetro, the city’s mass transit system, be aware that it will operate on a modified schedule during the holiday. On Christmas Eve (December 24), fixed routes will follow a Sunday schedule, and there won’t be any night service. However, Dial-A-Ride will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

On Christmas Day (December 25) itself, there will be no fixed route or Dial-A-Ride services at all, and the Call Center will be closed. So, make those holiday plans accordingly!

Animal Services and Library Hours

For pet lovers, the Animal Service Center will close at 2 p.m. on December 24 and will remain closed on Christmas Day. If there’s an animal-related emergency after hours, folks are encouraged to contact the Consolidated Dispatch Agency. And for any non-emergency animal control matters, Leon County Animal Control urges calling only for significant issues.

Don’t forget: all LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library locations will close early at 6 p.m. on December 24 and will resume normal hours on December 26. So, if you need to grab a last-minute book for holiday reading, be sure to plan ahead!
