Tallahassee Fire Department Battles Late-Night Garage Fire on Medart Drive

Tallahassee Fire Department Responds to Garage Fire on Medart Drive

The Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) is currently investigating the cause of a garage fire that erupted late Sunday night at a home located on Medart Drive. The incident occurred around 11:50 p.m., prompting emergency services to respond swiftly to the scene.

Details of the Incident

Upon arrival, firefighters were met with thick smoke and visible flames coming from two cars parked near the garage. Fire crews acted quickly, extinguishing the fire while conducting a thorough search of the property. Fortunately, the residents had evacuated safely before TFD’s arrival. In the course of their operations, firefighters successfully rescued one pet from the home, which appeared to be unharmed.

The fire is believed to have started near the vehicles and quickly spread into the garage area. Thankfully, the majority of the damage was contained within the garage, which helped to preserve the integrity of the rest of the home.

A Busy Weekend for Firefighters

This garage fire marks the fourth incident that TFD has responded to since Friday, raising concerns about fire safety in the area. A glance at the recent fires reveals the challenges faced by local firefighters:

  • Friday, Dec. 6, 2:48 p.m.: The fire department responded to a house fire on Kingman Trail. Crews discovered fire in the laundry room of a single-story residence that had spread to the attic.
  • Saturday, Dec. 7, 4:10 a.m.: A fire was reported in an apartment on Lake Avenue. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from one of the units, but were able to contain the fire to that specific apartment.
  • Saturday, Dec. 7, 9:59 p.m.: Another apartment fire was reported on Ocala Road. Firefighters received reports of individuals trapped on a second-story balcony. They immediately initiated rescue operations, successfully rescuing two people via ladder.

Community Response

As these incidents unfold, community members are reminded of the importance of fire safety and the need to have a plan in case of emergencies. The Tallahassee Fire Department continues to encourage residents to ensure their smoke detectors are functional and to create escape routes in their homes.

TFD has not yet determined the cause of the Medart Drive fire, and their investigation is ongoing. Further updates will be provided as they become available.

Residents are encouraged to stay alert and report any suspicious activities that might pose a risk of fire. This recent spate of incidents underscores the importance of vigilance within the community and the quick response of emergency services.
