On Thursday, December 12, the city of Tallahassee will host a series of meetings focused on important development projects that could reshape parts of the area. The meetings, organized by the Growth Management Department, are designed to allow project applicants to gather feedback and constructive comments from various city departments. This initiative aims to identify any potential challenges and solutions early in the development process, fostering a collaborative approach.
The first meeting will commence at 8:30 AM with a Type A Site Plan named TSP240078, which concerns the expansion of the District 850 Phase 2 indoor amusement facility. This project, represented by Makoto Gazzara from Kimley-Horn, proposes a significant addition of 44,070 square feet to the existing facility, which currently occupies a 5.67-acre site within the Canopy Planned Unit Development zoning district. The project coordinator is Lance Jacobson, who can be contacted via email for further details.
Following this, at 9:00 AM, a proposal for a new Lexus dealership will be discussed under the project code TSP240081. Located at 3800 W Tennessee St, the planned facility will cover 41,175 square feet and include a car wash of 1,743 square feet. This 25.55-acre site is situated within the Commercial Parkway zoning district. The project is being coordinated by Leidy Carter from Moore Bass Consulting.
Moreover, a pre-submittal meeting will take place at 9:45 AM for the Magnolia School Expansion, identified by project code TPA240113. This proposal, led by Denise Spivey, involves the unification of two parcels on 2707 W Tharpe St. The aim is to change the use of one parcel from single-family residential to classroom and office space. This project is located on 0.22 acres within an R-3 zoning district, which permits various residential types, and is part of the Multi-Modal Transportation District.
These meetings are critical for local stakeholders, including residents and business owners, as they provide a platform for addressing questions and concerns regarding the proposed developments. The city emphasizes the importance of early communication to prevent complications that can arise as projects progress. By bringing all relevant city departments together, applicants can receive valuable insights that may aid in refining their proposals before formal submissions.
As Tallahassee continues to grow, these developments could significantly impact the local economy and overall community. The expansion of recreational facilities and commercial spaces like the proposed Lexus dealership reflects the city’s commitment to enhancing its infrastructure and service offerings.
The Growth Management Department encourages community involvement in these processes, advocating for transparency and open discussion. Residents may express their views or concerns during the scheduled meetings or by contacting project coordinators directly.
This upcoming meeting on December 12 marks a vital step in Tallahassee’s path toward responsible and sustainable development, shaping the area’s future through robust planning and stakeholder engagement.
