Tallahassee Community Mourns the Loss of Two Beloved Residents
This past week, our lovely city of Tallahassee has been gripped by a deep sense of sorrow as we remember two incredible men who shaped our community with their kind hearts and great spirits. Gerald M. Carroll, affectionately known to friends and family as *Jerry*, left us on March 16, 2025, and Frank Burney followed shortly after, passing on March 15, 2025. The impact of their lives and legacy will not be forgotten.
A Heartfelt Tribute to Jerry Carroll
Jerry Carroll was born on January 25, 1935, in Ozark, Alabama, where he spent his early days working on his family’s farm and helping out in his mother’s restaurant. After graduating from high school, he made the brave decision to relocate to Tallahassee, hoping to carve out a promising future where he could build a career and start a family.
His journey took a pivotal turn when he was drafted into the Army, a time that not only gave him vital life skills but also an opportunity to pursue his education while serving our country. Once he returned to civilian life, he embarked on a fulfilling career in the auto mechanic industry, becoming a well-respected figure known for his diligent work ethic and unwavering dedication.
Jerry’s personal life was just as rich as his professional one. He married the love of his life, Judith K. Jones, lovingly known as *Judy*, and together they raised a beautiful family nestled in the heart of Tallahassee. Jerry was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an adoring grandfather to his eight grandchildren. His commitment to his family was unmatched, and he loved spending time with them, whether it was riding his tractor, hitting the golf course, or gathering with the *Wednesday Morning Breakfast Crew*, a group of friends who shared good food and laughter.
Celebrating milestones was something Jerry held dear. Just before his passing, he joyously marked his 90th birthday and the golden anniversary of his marriage—a true testament to a life well-lived. His love for family and friends will continue to resonate within the community.
A memorial service honoring Jerry’s life is set for Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home. In a beautiful gesture of remembrance, his loved ones suggest that, instead of flowers, donations be made to Advent Episcopal Church, one of Jerry’s cherished institutions.
Another beloved figure, Frank Burney, aged 84, also left this world just a day before Jerry. Frank had an impactful life marked by his love for family, friends, and the community. Known for his infectious laugh and warm demeanor, Frank will be profoundly missed.
Survived by his wife, Nancy Burney, and their daughter, FaNasha Black (Marc), Frank was the type of person who brought everyone together. He also leaves behind his brother, Larry Burnis (Linda), and many other relatives and friends who cherished their time with him. Frank’s capacity for joy and his passion for connecting with others made him a beloved member of our Tallahassee family.
The funeral service for Frank is scheduled for the same day as Jerry’s memorial, March 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. This service will take place at Strong & Jones Chapel and will include a burial in Oakland Cemetery, allowing friends and family to say their final goodbyes.
As we reflect on the incredible lives of both Jerry and Frank, let us remember them not just in moments of sadness but by celebrating the love, laughter, and warmth they brought to our lives. Their spirits will forever be etched in our hearts, and the legacy they left behind will continue to inspire our community. Let us come together this Saturday to honor two remarkable individuals who did so much for us all.
