The festivities begin on Friday, December 27. Starting at 7 p.m., attendees will be welcomed in true fashion with a Native American welcome. At 7:30 p.m., get ready for an upbeat ‘Dance Through the Decades’ showcase. This thrilling segment will combine dance and dramatic reenactments, providing a vivid, entertaining experience through Tallahassee’s past. And to cap off the first night, there will be a toast to 200 years of Tallahassee at 10:30 p.m..
On Saturday, December 28, prepare for a day bursting with activities! The morning will kick off with a host of delightful offerings including a petting zoo, pony rides, food trucks, and a range of unique vendors that will keep everyone entertained and fed. The action continues at 11 a.m. with a Native American stickball game, followed by captivating storytelling sessions at 1 p.m., showcasing tales from Native, Black, Spanish, and cracker storytellers.
If you’ve ever wanted to learn some historic dance moves, don’t miss the historic dance lessons at 2 p.m., led by the talented Susan de Guardiola. Following that, there will be workshops on costume and decor preparation for the festive evening ball at 3 p.m..
The evening escalates into the lively ‘Territorial Ball for All’, kicking off at 7 p.m.. Attendees can expect doors to open with a fantastic atmosphere featuring 1824 fashions, lively dance lessons, and dramatic shows. Around 9 p.m., enjoy dramatic reenactments portraying Florida’s first legislature, and then at 11 p.m., get ready for more toasts to celebrate this milestone occasion!
As the weekend comes to a close, Sunday, December 29 promises wonderful family-friendly activities. The day starts at 12 p.m. with a family dance party that’s sure to get everyone moving. This will be followed by a hands-on candle decorating workshop at 1 p.m. where creativity can flourish. At 2 p.m., learn about Florida’s first Christmas, immersing yourself in history.
Finally, the moment everyone has been waiting for: at 3 p.m., the stage will be set for the premiere of ‘Tales from the Log Cabin Capitol’, a dramatical interpretation that promises to be captivating! To sweeten the day, a celebratory birthday cake for Leon County will make its appearance at 4:30 p.m..
