Pensacola Man Arrested Following Dangerous High-Speed Police Chase

Pensacola Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase

Pensacola, Florida – A 28-year-old man was taken into custody following a dangerous police chase that unfolded on Tuesday. The suspect, identified as Tres’ DeMichael Dawson, faces multiple charges after leading Florida Highway Patrol troopers on a pursuit that started on Highway 29.

Incident Overview

The chase began around mid-afternoon when troopers noticed a speeding SUV traveling north on Highway 29, just north of Nine Mile Road. In an attempt to pull over the vehicle, troopers activated their lights and sirens. Instead of stopping, Dawson accelerated away from the officers, fleeing east onto 9 1/2 Mile Road and then south on Highway 95A.

End of the Pursuit

The high-speed chase came to an abrupt end when Dawson attempted to turn left onto Flagler Drive. In order to safely terminate the pursuit, a trooper made intentional contact with the suspect’s vehicle, bringing the chase to a conclusion. However, Dawson did not give up easily.

Foot Chase and Arrest

After exiting his vehicle, Dawson tried to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended by the troopers. Following a brief struggle, he was subdued using a taser. Dawson was subsequently taken to West Florida Hospital for evaluation, and once cleared, he was transported to the Escambia County Jail.

Charges Filed

Upon his arrest, Dawson was charged with several offenses, including fleeing and eluding, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, vehicle theft, hit and run, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest. The charges reflect the serious nature of his actions during the incident.

Evidence Collected

Law enforcement officials also reported that suspected narcotics were found in Dawson’s vehicle. These substances have been sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement laboratory for testing. The results of these tests may lead to additional charges, depending on their findings.

Current Status

Dawson is currently being held at the Escambia County Jail with a bond set at $42,000. The incident raises concerns regarding public safety, and officials are urging residents to remain vigilant, especially regarding reckless driving behaviors.

Conclusion

This chase underscores the significant risks associated with high-speed pursuits and the potential consequences for individuals who choose to evade law enforcement. The community will be paying close attention to Dawson’s upcoming legal proceedings as the situation develops.
