As Tallahassee braces itself for the return of softball season, fans are buzzing with anticipation for the Florida State Seminoles softball team’s upcoming campaign. The squad is set to kick things off on February 6, 2025, with a thrilling match against Oklahoma State in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, as part of the P Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. With such a prestigious opening, the Seminoles are geared up for what promises to be an exciting season.
This year’s expectations are high, as the Seminoles have been ranked second in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) preseason poll. The team received four first-place votes and amassed a total of 183 points, trailing only Duke. Such accolades serve to boost the confidence of both players and fans alike, setting the stage for a season to remember.
Among the stars of the team are catcher Michaela Edenfield, infielder Jaysoni Beachum, and outfielder Jahni Kerr, who have all secured spots on the preseason All-ACC team. Beachum had an impressive season last year, leading the squad with a remarkable .417 batting average, smashing 16 home runs, and racking up 66 RBIs, shattering numerous school freshman records. Edenfield wasn’t too shabby either, showcasing her talent with a career-best .381 batting average, 15 home runs, and 46 RBIs in the prior season. Meanwhile, Kerr has displayed her consistency with back-to-back All-ACC honors and a solid .308 batting average with nine home runs last year.
The Seminoles will also see the return of pivotal players like Ashtyn Danley, a Second Team All-ACC pitcher, and Makenna Reid, who is recovering from a back injury. Their presence is sure to reassure fans as the team gears up for battle in a highly competitive conference.
This season isn’t just about returning faces, however. The pitching staff has been bolstered with new additions, including transfers Julia Apsel from Hofstra and Annabelle Widra from Auburn. Freshman Jazzy Francik, who boasts a top 10 standing among high school pitchers, is sure to add depth and skill to the mound.
The buzz continues with the Seminoles securing the 5th-ranked recruiting class in the nation. The impressive lineup features Francik alongside recruits Addie DeLong, Shelby McKenzie, and Isabella Ruggiero. This infusion of new talent is expected to significantly enhance the team’s performance.
After a strong showing in 2024, which culminated in an appearance at the Super Regionals, the Seminoles are aiming to return to Oklahoma City for the Women’s College World Series. With a combination of seasoned players and new talent, the FSU squad is focused and hungry for success.
Fans are encouraged to rally around the team as they embark on this new chapter. The passion, energy, and enthusiasm surrounding the Florida State Seminoles softball program are palpable, and it’s clear that this season is shaping up to be one for the history books!
