With a full house of 1,737 fans, FSU showcased remarkable teamwork and skill, highlighted by Jahni Kerr’s impressive two-home run performance. Ashtyn Danley and Annabelle Widra led the pitching efforts, each contributing to one of FSU’s highest-ranked victories in recent history. The Seminoles prepare for their next challenge against the Virginia Cavaliers this Friday.
In a thrilling display of skill and teamwork, the No. 10 Florida State University (FSU) softball team secured its 14th consecutive victory with a stunning 4-0 shutout against the No. 4 Florida Gators. This exciting game unfolded at the bustling JoAnne Graf Field, where a sold-out crowd of 1,737 enthusiastic fans filled the stands, making it one of the largest regular-season turnouts in the venue’s history.
Facing off against the ranked Gators is never an easy task, but the Seminoles have been on fire lately, winning seven out of the last eight meetings. The energy was palpable as players took to the field, determined to extend their impressive winning streak. And they did just that!
Right from the start, the tension was high. In the first inning, the Gators managed to load the bases with only one out. But it’s amazing how quickly fortunes can shift in softball! FSU’s ace, Ashtyn Danley, showcased her incredible skills by delivering back-to-back strikeouts, turning the tables and revitalizing the Seminoles’ spirit. Talk about flipping the momentum!
With the defending champions shaken, FSU wasted no time claiming the lead. In the very next half-inning, Jahni Kerr stepped up to the plate. Facing a nail-biting 3-2 count, she swung for the fences and blasted a thrilling three-run home run—sending the crowd into a frenzy and putting FSU ahead 3-0.
Continuing her remarkable performance, Kerr made headlines not just for her heroics, but also for marking her first career multi-home run game. She finished the day with a total of two home runs, tying her career record with an impressive four RBIs. What a performance!
As the game progressed, FSU’s solid defense led by Danley was hard to break through for the Gators. Pitching four scoreless innings, Danley gave up only four hits and struck out three batters, earning her seventh win of the season and bolstering her record to 7-1.
After Danley’s brilliant stint, freshman Annabelle Widra took the mound, and she didn’t disappoint. She came in to relieve Danley, effortlessly retiring all eight batters she faced on just 23 pitches, achieving her first career save. What a remarkable way for a freshman to step into the spotlight!
This win against Florida marks FSU’s highest-ranked regular-season victory since they clinched a game against No. 2 Arizona back in March 2021. It’s also noteworthy that this shutout is the fifth-ever against the Gators, with the last one being recorded in 2019. The hard work and dedication of the team are clearly paying off as they have outscored opponents an astounding 209-50 during this incredible 14-game winning streak.
With a season record now standing at 34-5, FSU is enjoying its best start since 2022, when they kicked off with a 37-4 record. As the excitement builds, fans can look forward to the Seminoles’ next challenge, as they gear up for a home series against the Virginia Cavaliers starting this Friday at 6 p.m. at JoAnne Graf Field. Let’s go Seminoles!
