Excitement in Tallahassee: FSU Athletics Shines Across the Board
Hey there, Tallahassee! It’s another thrilling week in the world of FSU athletics, and there’s just so much happening that it’s hard to keep track. So, let’s jump right in and see what our Seminoles are up to this week!
Women’s Basketball: High Stakes Against Notre Dame
If you’re a fan of women’s basketball, tonight is a must-watch! Our FSU women’s basketball team, currently ranked at No. 24, is gearing up to take on the powerhouse No. 3 Notre Dame on their home court. The game tips off at 8 p.m. and there’s excitement buzzing in the air.
Did you know that in the history of FSU basketball, we’ve only snagged one win against Notre Dame across 14 matchups? The last victory came in 2022 when the lady ‘Noles defeated the Fighting Irish with a score of 70-65. So, it’s a high-stakes game for sure! Our team is riding high on a stellar season, boasting the second-highest scoring average in the nation at a whopping 89.4 points per game, led by none other than Ta’Niya Latson, the nation’s top scorer, putting up an average of 26.2 points!
Have no fear! On the defensive end, we’ve got Makayla Timpson leading the charge with a remarkable 91 blocks this season, averaging 3.25 blocks per game. That’s a big deal when you’re going up against a team like Notre Dame. The game will be broadcast live on the ACC Network, so be sure to catch the action with commentary from Debbie Antonelli and Jenn Hildreth. Also, if you’re tuning in from your mobile device, don’t forget to stream it via the Seminole Sport Network!
Softball: Home Games and Strong Records
Switching gears to the diamond, our FSU softball team is stirring up some serious excitement as they host the Dugout Club Classic this weekend! Ranked No. 8 in the country, the team is ready to showcase their talent in a home setting over three action-packed days. They’ll be facing Florida Gulf Coast, Mercer, and Charleston, starting with a game against FGCU on Thursday at 6 p.m.
The Seminoles have an impressive record of 43-1 against the teams they’ll be battling this weekend, including an 11-1 record against FGCU. It gets better! Two former FSU graduates, Devyn Flaherty and Kalei Harding, are now part of Mercer’s coaching staff. That’s a fun little storyline to keep an eye on!
Men’s Tennis: Conference Action Kicks Off
But wait, there’s more! The FSU men’s tennis team will also be kicking off their conference play this weekend, facing off against Boston College and SMU. The guys have a flawless record against Boston College, winning all 21 matches! Talk about confidence going into this one!
Swimming, Diving, and Golf: More Seminole Highlights
Jumping into the deep end, the FSU swimming and diving team, currently ranked No. 18/25, is off to compete at the Florida Invitational in Gainesville. With 17 swimmers attending, there’s a lot to look forward to, especially after freshman Michel Arkhangelskiy made waves at the recent ACC Championships, winning gold in the 100 backstroke and silver in the 100 butterfly.
On the golf course, junior Luke Clanton is eyeing a PGA Tour Card at the Cognizant Classic in Palm Beach. Fresh off a victory at the Watersound Classic, he’s looking to keep that momentum going!
Recognizing Excellence
In recognition of our student-athletes’ hard work, three FSU athletes received the ACC Postgraduate Scholarship Recognition: Heather Gilchrist from women’s soccer, David Quirie from men’s swimming and diving, and Gloria Muzito from women’s swimming and diving. Kudos to them!
NFL Combine Buzz
So there you have it, Tallahassee! It seems there’s never a dull moment when it comes to FSU athletics. Whether you’re cheering from the stands or catching the action on your screen, let’s keep rooting for our Seminoles as they make us proud!
