Tallahassee was alive with excitement recently as Florida A&M University hosted its much-anticipated Be Out Day alongside the thrilling 2025 Pro Day. This dual event brought together students, alumni, and local residents, creating an electric vibe that was hard to miss.
The festivities kicked off at the Will Packer Amphitheater, where R&B sensation Jacquees had the crowd swaying and singing along to his smooth hits. Songs like “You” and “B.E.D.” echoed through the air, captivating attendees with a soulful performance that underscored the spirit of unity, fun, and cultural pride that defines the FAMU community.
Beyond the music, Be Out Day was alive with the savory scents of soul food and the vibrant colors of custom FAMU apparel available from various vendors. Student organizations added to the fun, engaging attendees with electrifying performances and exciting giveaways. Among the highlights, the famous Marching 100 band took to the stage, thrilling the audience and reinforcing their well-earned reputation as the nation’s top marching band.
More than just a celebration, Be Out Day offered a fantastic networking opportunity for current students and alumni, allowing Rattlers to connect and celebrate their shared legacy. The atmosphere was charged with pride, making it an unforgettable experience for everyone present.
The impressive roster of talent had FAMU’s head coach, James Colzie III, beaming with pride for his players’ accomplishments, which included championships and graduation from the institution. Acknowledging FAMU’s rich tradition of producing NFL stars, alumni such as Markquese Bell, Terrell Jennings, Isaiah Land, and Xavier Smith serve as shining examples of the program’s success.
Among the notable athletes, Daniel Richardson caught the eyes of scouts after shedding over 20 pounds in preparation for the event. Running a 4.68-second 40-yard dash, he was also crowned Offensive MVP at the recent HBCU Legacy Bowl. Meanwhile, Kendall Bohler, a cornerback and HBCU All-American, showcased his talents with a 4.63-second dash and a remarkable 35-inch vertical leap.
It was a special day for Jeremiah Pruitte as well, who celebrated his 24th birthday while competing. Fellow athlete Kelvin Dean Jr. also made a splash, expressing his aspirations of joining the NFL following his Pro Day performance.
FAMU football is making waves, boasting one of the largest Pro Days among HBCUs, with approximately 16 scouts in attendance. With the NFL Draft set for April 24-26, the excitement continues as FAMU players have been meeting with various NFL teams, increasing their chances of being selected.
Under Coach Colzie’s guidance, FAMU football is looking to the future, actively recruiting and utilizing the transfer portal to strengthen the team for the upcoming 2025 season. They anticipate adding around 27 new players during National Signing Day and through spring transfers, highlighting the importance of attracting promising high school prospects to build a solid foundation.
As Tallahassee basked in the glow of celebration and hopeful aspirations, FAMU’s Be Out Day and Pro Day reminded everyone of the university’s vibrant spirit and the continuing legacy of its students and athletes.
